Jõhvi Coding School Is Looking for a School Head

The founders of Jõhvi’s new coding school, which will open next autumn, have launched the search for a school head and leadership team. Anyone who has an interest in Estonian educational innovation is very welcome to apply.

"Starting a next generation technology school, building a team, introducing a curriculum, training the first cohort and directing them to a successful career path could be an excellent challenge for the right person," said Rainer Sternfeld, one of the school's founders. He continues, "We are looking for those interested in developing technology education and have prior experience in creating a functioning community between the school, the local area and the wider Estonian technology sector."

The school, which will start working with the international 01 Education System (01Edu) program, will intake 200 students per year, offering them the opportunity to acquire free practical IT education. Together with these studies, the school offers students free accommodation, mentors and the opportunity to get acquainted with various companies who are looking for new employees in their rapidly developing technology companies. More than 40,000 people around the world have graduated from schools with similar models.

A successful candidate will be one that is able to work in a rapidly changing environment, has managed people or coordinated community life for at least 5 years. Having experience of working in an international team is also beneficial. "We expect fast learning and endless curiosity, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively, critically and analytically," Rainer Sternfeld lists the qualities of a good school leader. It is also necessary that the candidate speaks Estonian, Russian and English and is ready to stay in Jõhvi for the majority of the time.

"If the school head role doesn’t seem entirely appropriate, but the idea sounds interesting and you have a desire to get involved in the activities of the Jõhvi Coding School, then get in touch," said Rainer Sternfeld. "The first task of the school head is to build their own team."

The new head of the school can take office on the 1st of January (or February 2021 at the latest) and the salary for this position is 3,500 EUR gross. The application deadline is the 1st of December and can be submitted via talendipank.fontes.ee.
